Aquila Gold for cTrader: gold breakouts from an H4 channel

It keeps two moving averages of the H4 bars, one of the highs and one of the lows, and watches gold on every tick of the M1 chart. When the price breaks 250 points beyond that channel while the last closed M1 bar was still inside it, and the RSI says the move is not already stretched, it opens a trade in that direction with a take profit of 150 points. If the price turns 450 points against it, one larger position is added and both close together at a series target. A 20 % drawdown limit closes everything, new series open only from 12:00 to 19:59 UTC, and a dashboard on the chart shows every step.

What it does

Aquila Gold trades gold breakouts on the M1 chart. It keeps a 30-bar simple moving average of the H4 highs and one of the H4 lows, the forming H4 bar included, and reads them on every tick. A buy opens when the ask is 250 points (2.50 on a two-decimal gold quote) above the upper line while the last closed M1 bar had still closed below that level, and RSI(14) on M1 is under 60; a sell mirrors it on the bid below the lower line with RSI above 40. Only one direction is traded at a time, and new series open only from 12:00 to 19:59 UTC, the London afternoon and the New York morning. The first position is 0.05 lot with a take profit of 150 points held by the broker.

If the price moves 450 points against the first position, one more position of 0.09 lot is added (1.7 times the first, rounded to the lot step) and the broker take-profit is removed; both then close together as soon as the price is 120 points beyond their lot-weighted average. There is never a third position. When the open loss reaches 20 % of the balance, every position closes. With the news filter on, nothing new opens from 50 minutes before to 30 minutes after high-impact USD events, read from a public economic calendar through cTrader's own networking service on a live chart. A dashboard on the chart shows the account, each side's positions, lots, open profit, average and target, the channel and RSI values, the news and session state, and buttons to switch trading off and to close all, the buys or the sells.

The published backtest

The figures on this page are cTrader's own backtest report of the shipped configuration (Gold M1 Breakout), run by cTrader's backtester on IC Markets real tick data, XAUUSD M1, 10,000 USD, leverage 1:100, commission 27.5 USD per million, 1 January 2026 to 30 September 2026, the shipped configuration. Every number is read from the run's own report file: net profit 4,946.09 USD, a return of 49.5 %, profit factor 4.42, 617 trades of which 473 won, a maximum balance drawdown of 0.35 % and a maximum equity drawdown of 15.14 %. The same settings on Blueberry demo real ticks over the same dates, with 10,000 USD at leverage 1:500 and Blueberry's own commission of 3.5 USD per million, gave +51.3 % with a profit factor of 5.62 and a maximum equity drawdown of 15.46 %. No backtester has a news calendar, so the news filter was off in both runs.

What that backtest cannot promise. The shipped configuration was chosen by a parameter search on 2026 gold prices: selected on January to June, filtered on July and August, and September was opened only after the choice was frozen. It has not been shown to hold in other years. A breakout strategy depends on the market it meets: a quiet or choppy gold market gives fewer and worse breakouts. The balance drawdown is small because a losing series is held rather than closed; the equity drawdown is the real exposure, and the 20 % limit allows a loss of up to a fifth of the balance at once. The drawdown limit is a percentage of the balance while the lot is fixed, so the same lot does not scale down: on 6,000 USD the same settings reached the limit 1 time(s) and returned +53.6 % with a profit factor of 2.00; a smaller account should lower the first lot in proportion, 0.01 lot per 2,000 USD. Run your own backtest on your own broker's data before trading.

How it was verified

The engine is platform-free C#: it references no cTrader type, so the code that ships can be compiled outside the platform and replayed on the same ticks cTrader's backtester uses. Replayed that way, its trades matched cTrader's own backtest of the published run trade by trade, to the cent, with zero mismatches. The published figures are cTrader's own, not the replay's.

The preset

The shipped configuration is built into the cBot and chosen with the first parameter, where cTrader lists it as Gold_M1_Breakout; Custom keeps whatever the panel shows, and the panel starts at the same values. Gold quotes with two or three decimals are handled automatically, and there is no file to download, find or import after the purchase. A stop-loss per position, a trailing exit for the series, a maximum series age, a trend filter and a Friday cutoff are built in as optional extensions, all off as shipped.

Requirements

cTrader Desktop 5.x on Windows or Mac, or cTrader Web, on a hedging account; XAUUSD or your broker's spelling of it, on the M1 chart. The recommended balance is 10,000 USD for the shipped 0.05 lot. 74 parameters, every one documented. It declares no access rights at all; the news calendar is read through cTrader's own networking service, which is why it needs none. Keep the platform running, or use a VPS: the series target and the drawdown limit are applied by the cBot itself.

Support

Through the Discussion tab of the Store listing, so the conversation stays next to the product. Please include your broker, cTrader version, your parameter values and the instance log.

This is trading software that places, modifies and closes orders on the account it runs on. As shipped no position carries a stop-loss: a series that goes against it is held until its target or until the open loss reaches 20 % of the balance, which closes everything, and several such losses in a row add up. The recovery position is larger than the first, so a continuing move grows the open loss faster. The configuration was chosen on 2026 data only. Backtest results are hypothetical; past performance does not indicate future results. Trading leveraged products involves risk of loss.
